Q & As

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by A very poor product I bought this coffee machine 10 months ago and despite the loud noise and leaking water tank it does make decent coffee. However over the months the noise level and vibration have increased dramatically. This despite descaling in line with the instructions. Two weeks ago the arm holding the coffee filter flew off. Covering my kitchen in hot coffee. I thought that perhaps I hadn't tightened the arm sufficiently. but making sure that I did tighten the arm - the same thing happened again. Not only really dangerous but a ruined rug and coffee stains down the wall. This is the worse kitchen appliance that I have ever purchased. 10 May 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Enjoying great coffee This is really easy to use and produces great coffee in next to no time. I bought this machine as Which? recommended it and now I recommend it, too. 20 January 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Good coffee but dangerous frother I have the black version of this, it makes nice coffee once you get the hang of using the machine. But it has a flaw the frother is continuously coming off and as you have to hold the metal mug underneath the spout i have had hot steam going all over my hand on several occasions . And it just becomes a bind having to keep pulling the spout of the metal mug and almost getting scalded from the steam when the spout flies off. I purchased this in november so dissapointing that i am getting this problem just 2 months in. 06 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Style without substance We received this machine as part of our wedding list. Whilst it definitely looks the part, it makes incredibly weak coffee. Proper espresso should be deep brown/black - right? Well, this machine makes something that looks more like a mild tan than tar. It is also VERY noisy. The machine rattles considerably and makes a very loud buzzing noise whilst working. In fact, it vibrates so much that the cup moves away from the nozzle. Leaves a nice mess if you're not standing right beside it the whole time. Hoping De Longhi will do the decent thing and take it back... 03 January 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Makes great coffee I love the look of this machine. The one down side is that it isn't easy to tighten the coffee holder as machine tends to move and I find myself holding onto the frother knob to stable it. 16 December 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Makes excellent coffee - while it lasts. This is my third of these. The first two died young but the coffee was so good ... better than in the Gaggia Classic I had before. This time I've bought the extra 3 years cover and, to ensure I comply with the makers' instructions to clean it every 200 cups, I've attached a cheap knitter's row-counter to the machine. And although I live in a soft-water area I use filtered water. On the new machine, the hole in the end of the inner steam nozzle is bigger than on the previous one, which I've kept because it makes a stiffer foam of the milk. (I find dried skimmed milk gives a really firm froth when lightly whisked in water and heated to 60C; Gaggia sell a useful thermometer for a few pounds.) For freshness, I grind my own beans in a Spong hand mill, but any good-quality espresso-ground coffee makes equally perfect espresso or cappucino in this machine. 05 October 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed Recently bought the kettle and toaster so have added the coffee machine. Very disappointed. Even following instructions coffee not very hot and using a dark roast coffee tasted like warm milky water. Have returned to store and gone back to the Bialetti on the hob type which makes an excellent espresso. Shame, it looks really good. 21 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Stylish, with character Well, we already had the kettle and toaster, so it was an easy purchase just based on its looks. I was a bit worried that the ESE pods would be hard to come by, but easily available, in quite a variety, on the internet. As per other reviews; yes it's quite rattly - no creeping down for a quiet midnight espresso, but I quite like the fact that you know it's churning away. Generally don't use the frother, but heat milk in microwave to create lattes. There may be easier ways of making nice coffee, and it may not be for the connoisseur, but we love the looks and fun of this machine. 06 August 2014
