British Museum - Rosso Fiorentino Female Nude Framed Print & Mount, 66 x 106cm, Brown
Product description
Product code: 77520203
A reproduction life drawing print of a reclining female male nude by Rosso Fiorentino, from the British Museum. Made in the UK, this print is supplied mounted, glazed and framed in a slim antique champagne frame, ready to hang on your wall.
This is one of the finest surviving examples of Rosso's drawings in red chalk. The pose of the figure resembles that of Michelangelo's marble statue of 'Dawn', one of the two reclining 'allegories' on the sarcophagus of the tomb of Lorenzo de' Medici in the 'New Sacristy' of the church of San Lorenzo in Florence. The pose is also similar to that of the sleeping nude woman in the bottom left of Rosso's fresco of the 'Fountain of Youth' in the Gallery of Francis I at Fontainebleau and it seems likely that the drawing was made while Rosso was in France (from 1530 until his death in 1540).
Founded in 1753, the British Museum was the first national public museum in the world. From the outset, it was a museum of the world, for the world, and this idea still lies at the heart of the museum’s mission today. The collection tells the stories of cultures across the world, from the dawn of human history, over two million years ago, to the present.
