How to measure for roller blinds

Choose whether you want to have your Roller blind fitted inside or outside your recess. The recess is the space within your window area.

We make all adjustments for you to make sure the blind and fittings works for your window space, so please only provide exact measurements. Measurements should be input to one decimal place.

Measuring inside the recess

Having your Roller blind fitted inside the recess means your blind will be concealed inside the frame.

- This option blocks out most light from the room

- Please make sure no wall fittings or window handles will obstruct your blind.

- You should have your blind fitted outside your recess if your window opens inwards or your recess is too shallow for the blind mechanism (less than 7.5cm).

Measure height (cm)

measure width

First, measure the window recess width from edge to edge in 3 places, as shown in the diagram. Then, measure the height edge to edge in 3 places. We ask you to take 3 measurements as your walls may not be straight.

Make a note of the shortest measurement (cm).

Measuring outside the recess

Having your Roller blind fitted outside the recess means it will be fitted on the wall outside your window are.

- Please make sure no wall fittings or furniture will obstruct your blind.

- You should have your blind fitted outside your recess if your window opens inwards or your recess is too shallow for the blind mechanism (less than 7.5cm).

1. Measure width (cm)

Make a note of the biggest measurement (cm).
overlap

Decide how much clearance you would like on each side of the width of the window. It’s recommended 10cm each side, with a minimum of 7.5cm each side.

Add it all together.  (including the clearance both sides).

2. Measure height (cm)

measure height

Measure from recess height edge to edge, again in 3 places.

Make a note of the biggest measurement (cm).

measure height

Decide how much clearance you would like top and bottom. It’s recommended 10cm top and 10cm bottom. Minimum 7.5cm top and 7.5cm bottom.

Add it all together (including the clearance both ends).

What is the installation height?

This measurement enables us to give you the correct length of control chain for your made-to-measure roller blind, whilst complying with strict child safety legislation.

Measure vertically from a fixing point of the blind (where the headrail will be fixed to the wall) down to the floor. Even if your blind is above a kitchen sink/worktop, we still need the installation height to be measured from the headrail to the floor.

Important

It’s illegal to supply an internal window blind which doesn’t comply with child safety requirements, regardless of whether children are present in the home or not. This includes limitations on cord and chain lengths. See our blind buying guide for further information.
