Did you know that the John Lewis Partnership holds an archive of 30,000 textile designs which date back to 1799? This treasure trove is based in Odney, Berkshire and our designers will regularly delve into it for inspiration, emerging days later, bleary-eyed but full of ideas. The illustrative paisley and floral print on this dress is inspired by an archival find from 1911, but it nods to the future too in the way it's manufactured.
It's made with a curved underbust seam so it hangs beautifully, and is finished with a frilled collar and shirred cuffs. It seems the chic shall inherit the earth after all.
