Kin Julmeme Ukiyo-e Print Dress, Pink/Blue

This soft printed dress is part of our collaboration with graphic designer Julmeme. Made from a blend of sustainable viscose, it has a simple silhouette with a V-shaped front and back, while the dropped shoulders add drape and fluidity throughout the piece.

Featuring the Ukiyo-e 'pine' print, in Japanese culture, this pine tree is known to represent longevity, good fortune and steadfastness. It is commonly linked with virtue and long life, even immortality. The pine tree is iconic of the Japanese New Year, as a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and a bright and hopeful future. With the Pine print, we liked the idea of having the kanji hidden and you would notice them upon closer inspection.

For SS21, Kin men & womenswear has collaborated with Graphic designer and artist Julmeme. Julmeme is a Swiss graphic artist living and working in Tokyo.

After studying in Geneva, he moved to Japan to explore a new design and mix Swiss typography with Japanese kanjis. He creates bold visual concepts with a strong focus on branding and typography.

We love the stories and messages behind Julmeme's work which are connected to Japanese tradition and symbolism; the Japanese people respect nature and don't attempt to manage or control nature but instead, they feel a spiritual bond with nature.

We see the serendipity within all of the graphic prints, typography and kanji's as a way to bring through this important and meaningful message about well being and self-regeneration.
