This beautiful embroidery features Violet Bee at the centre, surrounded by this species' favourite flowers including purple thistles. This design plays with some wonderful embroidery techniques from the tassel stitch to raised chain stitches. Finished with a piece of luxury violet velvet ribbon to hang.
It’s amazing to think that the Violet Carpenter Bee is not a thing of fantasy, these incredibly beautiful, luscious dark bees have reflective violet wings. Owing to climate change, they have now arrived in the UK from Southern Europe and the first one was spotted in Leicestershire in 2007. The name "carpenter bee" is derived from the fact they nest in rotting wood.
