Inspired by a historic four-panel crewelwork screen from the Royal School of Needlework collection, this charming embroidery kit features a little bird surrounded by flowing flowers, foliage and delicate butterflies. Drawing inspiration from motifs across the original screen, it creates a beautifully balanced and decorative composition.
Worked on linen twill using Appleton's crewel wools in a vibrant palette of colours, the project showcases the texture and character of traditional crewel embroidery. With a focus on long and short stitch and trellis stitch, it offers an excellent opportunity to develop these key techniques, alongside whipped chain, stem stitch, fishbone, closed fly stitch, French knots and bullion knots.
