Winner of What Hi-Fi’s ‘Best Desktop Speaker’ award for seven years, the MR1 Mk2 became a firm favourite, and the Mk3 improves upon this greatness with a sound that’s simply exceptional. Handcrafted cabinets provide ideal acoustic properties and, with their bevelled front edges and Slate Grey grilles, now look even more stylish. Size-wise the enclosures have been subtly enlarged to allow optimum volume for Ruark’s new NS+ Bass/Mid units and, for amplification, they’ve adapted the Class D technology used in R410, for a sizeable increase in power output and control. Painstaking optimisation of the speaker crossover and reflex tuning have resulted in a significant leap in acoustic performance. The MR1 Mk3 delivers deeper bass, a clear lucid midrange, and exceptional high frequency detail from custom 20mm silk dome tweeters, so, from the shimmer of cymbals to the resonance of a cello, every nuance is delivered with clarity and depth.
