Beautiful, fresh, clean and inviting first impression on the nose with lovely floral, vanilla and peach notes. It has a bit of citrus and even lemongrass and some hay emerges later. It is unique but still reminiscent of some of the greatest Scotch Malts of the lighter, clean and elegant style. There's notes of fresh grain and maltiness, and the cask ageing has worked beautifully.
The sweetness and zestiness balance each other nicely on the palate and the touch of fresh roasted malt and coffee note makes it more complex. White peach and pear zestiness carries a nice and refreshing finish. At 46% it is perfectly expressive and it stays crisp and refreshing throughout.
When Scilly Spirit started their distillery in May 2019, they were focused on making gin, and they’ve been thrilled with all the international awards that they have received, both for the distinctive Island Gin bottle design, and for the gin itself.
Driven by that success and their love of this beautiful archipelago - rich with all its maritime heritage, they felt it was poignant to make whisky – a new first for the Isles of Scilly.
So, just as they did for the creation of their Island Gin, they devoted their time to researching the whisky making process and sourcing everything needed to make this special spirit, whilst also wanting to remain true to their commitment to bring aspects of the Isles of Scilly to life through the packaging design.
As always, they completed every aspect of distilling, casking, bottling, labelling and wax sealing every bottle of their Island Whisky.
They are so proud and excited to make this truly historic Island Whisky, at this unique location - down at the most southwesterly point of the UK.
This is an excellent release and a lovely example of a well made cold climate world whisky.
