Choose up to 3 items of unwanted clothing from your wardrobe (men's or women's clothes only).

Make sure all items of clothing are clean and dry and in a reasonable condition. A small rip or tear is acceptable.

Bring your BuyBack items and my John Lewis card or my Waitrose card to a participating shop (see list above).

Browse for something that you'd like to buy in store on the day.

Visit a till point in the Womenswear or Menswear Department at any participating John Lewis & Partners shop or the Welcome Desk at the participating Waitrose & Partners shop and talk to a Partner to get started.

The Partner helping you will check and process your unwanted items when you’re making your next purchase with us. We’ll treat you to £3 credit for each eligible item (up to £9) to spend on the day when you exchange your items at a John Lewis & Partners shop, or a gift card when you exchange at Waitrose & Partners.

Terms & Conditions

BuyBack with my John Lewis

  • BuyBack is a trial for John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners.
  • The BuyBack trial is only valid in store at John Lewis and Partners in Oxford, Cambridge, Cheadle, Southampton and Birmingham, Bluewater and Waitrose & Partners Cheadle Hulme. This trial is not accessible online at www.johnlewis.com or at any other website.
  • Only my John Lewis members, my Waitrose members and Joint Loyalty Card members may participate in the BuyBack trial.
  • A valid my John Lewis, my Waitrose or Joint Loyalty Card must be shown to participate in the BuyBack trial.
  • The invitation to participate in the BuyBack trial is valid from 29th February 2020 for John Lewis & Partners and 11th March 2020 for Waitrose & Partners Cheadle Hulme.
  • Customers may only bring back a maximum of 3 items of either Womenswear or Menswear clothing. One transaction per visit.
  • John Lewis and Partners will reward each item of clothing received as part of the BuyBack trial with £3 per item, redeemable against one purchase that day. If participating in Waitrose & Partners Cheadle Hulme, customers will receive the store credit on a gift card.
  • One item of approved clothing will receive £3, two approved items of clothing will receive £6 and the maximum of 3 approved items of clothing will receive £9.
  • Approved Clothing for the BuyBack trial are defined as:
    Clothing that has been purchased from John Lewis and Partners, or a brand that is or has been stocked at John Lewis and Partners.
  • Womenswear and Menswear clothing items, swimwear and bags are accepted.
  • We cannot accept:
    Lingerie, Underwear, Socks, Tights, Accessories, Towels, Linen.
  • All clothing must be in a reasonable state of condition. Any items of clothing which are unclean or wet will not be accepted.
  • No cash alternative is available.
  • John Lewis and Partners reserve the right to close the BuyBack trial early or extend.
  • John Lewis and Partners in store Partners have the final say in what can be accepted as part of the BuyBack trial, and have the right to exercise discretion.
  • Any items returned after using the service will receive the discounted value back. 
  • E.g - Item RRP £40 and the Buyback items are worth £9, a customer will pay £31. The customer will receive £31 back if returning the item.
  • Only one offer can be used per transaction - for example, BuyBack and BeautyCycle rewards cannot be redeemed in the same transaction.
