Q & As

Rated 2 out of 5 by dab radio in the mirror keeps failing Started being faulty with a hum whichi had to sort with an extra part from you and the manufacturer. Now it keeps either the display whirling around with no sound, or stuck on talk radio. But now its latest trick is to come on on its own with all the controls lit up but no matter which button you press no radio nor can i switch the lit up buttons off Help 14 May 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Nice mirror, but...... We bought this on 24 March 2014. As it is hard wired is cost quite a bit to get it fitted by an electrician. Be warned, this is not a DIY job. It does indeed look stunning, and sounds good too. Until today (almost exactly 9 months since purchase), it has worked perfectly. Unfortunately the LCD display is now only half working which makes it impossible to set stations or change functions. So to send it back I am going to have to pay an electrician to remove it and to fit another as there's a big gap on my wall if I don't replace it.. This will probably cost almost as much as the mirror, especially if I have to do it every 9 months. As its guaranteed for 5 years I am very disappointed. 21 December 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sooo Cool! Couldn't resist this for our spanking new bathroom! It's far cleverer than I am but am getting to grips with it! May even have to get an MP3 player! 05 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful mirror We are delighted with the mirror and its range of features. The de-mist panel was an unexpected surprise ! The media functions work well with excellent radio reception. My only issue is the preset function for the radio. Both the written instructions with the mirror and the online PDF is very sketchy and unclear. I cannot figure out how to set the chosen radio stations to the numbered presets. When I do manage it, that is purely luck rather than judgement. 29 October 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Given Up I've had to return two of these. The first didn't respond properly to the controls and had the high pitched squeak another reviewer mentioned. I spoke to Roper Rhodes, whose name is on the product, they seemed to recognise the problem and immediately offered to send an electronic filter, a new main controller and a new USB reader for me to fit. A bit fiddly and I shouldn't have been expected to do it myself, but I managed it. Even after that the controls worked sometimes but often locked up. The instructions said if this happens turn the power off, but since there is no external power switch that means turning off at the fuse box. I got fed up and asked John Lewis to replace it, which they did rapidly and willingly. The second one has a different fault, the speakers are very crackley and muffled. Sadly, I've given up and asked JL for a refund. 25 September 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Seems like a lot of problems - not easy to install So first and foremost - this radio mirror is very hard to install - I had to get an electrician to fit it to the mains electricity, which was very expensive on top of the mirror cost. There are definitely some great elements to the mirror - the radio is good, and loud, the lights look great and work well, and the heated central part of the mirror is great after a long shower. There are major problems however: The main one - my mirror emits a quiet high pitched buzzing sound now that I can't get rid of, and because of the costs of installation - I can't just return the whole mirror - so expect that now I must just now live with the sound of it. Also because the mirror is attached to the mains electricity, and so is switched on and off via the light switch - it never remembers the sleep functions, which is a limitation of the device. Finally, the lack of a waterproof remote control, limits the enjoyment that this mirror could bring to the bathroom. Adjusting the station and volume would really help make this mirror decent. In brief, a cool mirror, but the high pitch noise, and high installation costs make it a flawed item. 18 September 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Just returned. A little disappointed with this product...infact...very disappointed. After getting it home I wired it up to test before drilling holes in my new bathroom to mount it. I am so glad I did. 1. The power button would not work. You could not turn the radio off without removing it from the mains. 2. The buttons to control the radio worked about 2 out of every 3 times. 3. When you plug in an iPod with the cable supplied there was a loud buzzing sound from the speakers....too loud to ignore. 4. When playing from an iPod at near full volume the speakers distorted a lot and frequently cut out for about half a second. 5. The Dab radio struggled to pick up stations in my lounge using the telescopic aerial. The instructions suggest using the wire aerial as it is better however, they also suggest you hide it behind the grouting/tiles...a little late for that. To use the better aerial you also need to disassemble the product to disconnect an internal wire to the telescopic aerial. Not really a complaint, but something you might like to consider. This product does not seem up to JL's normal standards. We have thrown a lot of money their way recently, but this is the first time we have had an issue with one of their products. 21 August 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very disappointed We were very impressed with the styling of this product and the idea of having a radio in the bathroom. The look of it is great and the led lights are fab with the no touch function. Unfortunately we've sent it back after only three days. The radio function is entirely unreliable. The buttons immediately periodically refused to work. The radio has taken to either turning itself off; turning the volume off, or up to full without us pressing anything; or refusing to switch off at all - to the point we've had to switch the house electrics off just to stop the radio! My advice- despite it's good looks, avoid it. 05 April 2012
