The Royal Selangor story began more than a century ago when a young pewterer named Yong Koon sailed from the port of Shantou, China to the tin rich shores of Kuala Lumpur, Malaya. Initially he produced ceremonial pewter items such as incense burners for other Chinese migrants. As an early forerunner to the company’s ongoing commitment to meeting the changing needs of the consumer he later developed cigarette boxes, tankards and tea services for British military personnel residing in Malaya at that time.
