The Apple Pencil, 2nd Generation (2018) was designed to help you achieve greater precision when you're using an iPad (see compatibility list below). It's masterfully crafted to feel like an actual pencil, so you instinctively know how to use it.
This Apple Pencil is compatible with the 2020 iPad Pro 12.9" and 11" models, along with 2018 iPad Pro 12.9" and 11" models. If you're not sure which Apple Pencil to get, this version is compatible with the iPad Pro with a thinner bezel and no Home button. For previous models of the iPad Pro, use the previous version of the Apple Pencil.
It's also compatible with the 2021 iPad mini.
How does this new model compare to previous version?
The Apple Pencil has had a range of exterior and interior upgrades including:
- New, seamless design, without the metallic band around the top on the previous Pencil
- You can now double tap the pencil itself to change brush sizes or tools
- It now charges wirelessly, snapping onto the side of your iPad Pro magnetically

The Apple Pencil attaches magnetically to the side of your iPad Pro (2018) and iPad mini (2021) with a reassuring click. Once attached it will start to wirelessly charge and automatically pair with your device.

Simply double tap the side of the Apple Pencil to change brush sizes or models. You can customise your taps to easily switch between frequently used tools.
