Create a gallery wall of on-trend botanical prints with this set of three. Framed and ready to wall mount, there are three different flower and foliage illustrations by artists John Miller and Sydenham Edwards as well as Vison Studio. They're beautifully presented in warm antique gold-coloured frames.
Johann Miller was born in Nuremberg, Germany but left his native city and settled in London where he changed his name to John Miller. Miller executed the plates for 'An Illustration of the Sexual System of Linnaeus', published in London, 1770- 1777. He also produced the plates for the splendid 'Botanical Tables' which were privately published by John Stuart, third Earl of Bute, in 1785. Bute was a prominent politician, botanist, landscape gardener, and patron of the botanical sciences. He commissioned work from the finest illustrators of his time. Bute is most noted as the founder of the Royal Gardens at Kew. Miller also worked with Georg Dionysius Ehret. Ehret was an artist, scientist and teacher of botanical illustration.
Sydenham Edwards (1768 – 8 February 1819) was a natural history illustrator. Born in 1768 in Usk, Monmouthshire, the son of Lloyd Pittell Edwards, a schoolmaster and organist, and his wife, Mary Reese. Young Edwards had a precocious talent for draughtsmanship and when only 11-years-old had copied plates from Flora Londinensis for his own enjoyment. A certain Mr Denman visited Abergavenny in 1779 and saw some of Edwards' work. Denman, being a friend of William Curtis, the publisher of botanical works, and founder of the Curtis's Botanical Magazine, spoke to Curtis about the boy. Curtis proceeded to have Edwards trained in both botany and botanical illustration. Edward's career blossomed and his drawings were collected by aristocrats of his day and also printed in a range of well-regarded publications and encyclopaedias. His drawings also influenced ceramic pottery collections developed by Spode.
Vision Studio is a design and creative engine for World Art Group Art Publishers, led by design directors Julie Holland and Jennifer Goldberger. Working in every medium from digital illustration to oil, watercolour, acrylic, collage, encaustic, printmaking, and pencil, the collection of artists have the breadth and flexibility to span genres from traditional and transitional to contemporary.
