Flos Tatou Large Ceiling Light

This striking pendant is inspired by Japanese armour, modelled on its resistance, strength and flexibility. With its beautiful lattice effect it creates a striking statement, the light is cast out of the holes to create a dynamic spectacle. Inside there is an internal diffuser which gives the light its even glow and is perfect for a harmonious setting. Created by Patricia Urquiola, the Spanish born architect and designer now lives and works in Milan. She graduated in 1989, having done her thesis with fellow Flos designer Achille Castiglioni and went on to be his assistant lecturer in the early 90s. She also started a partnership with the Italian design company Maddalena De Padova where she met another internationally renowned designer, Vico Magistretti. Both Castiglioni and Magistretti noticed her talent and advised her to achieve the highest standards in design. From 1993 to 1996 she engaged in architectural design for showrooms, restaurants and franchises. After this she went started to design products for companies like Alessi, Knoll and Kartell, with her products being selected for the Italian Design 2001 exhibition and for International Design Yearbook 1999 and 2001. She has gone on to chair design awards and continually designs for exhibitions. Her creations focuses on design that will encourage positive feelings and company. Flos are one of the longest established premier lighting designers and have created some of the most iconic shapes. They were founded in 1962 by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina who enlisted the aid of Achille Castiglioni, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa to design. They soon went on to open their first store in 1968 and would eventually go on to design for residential, commercial and bespoke use for hotels, offices and stores.
